Farshid Guilak, PhD '92
Dr. Guilak received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering in 1991 under Professor Van C. Mow. His research focuses on the application of adult stem cells derived from adipose tissue for tissue-engineered repair of cartilage and bone. He has also developed new 3D woven biomaterial structures that are designed to mimic the complex mechanical properties of native tissues. Areas of research include the role of biophysical factors in the control of stem cell differentiation, the development of novel scaffolds based on native ECM-derived biomaterials, and use of hydrodynamic processing methods to produce anisotropic nanofiber scaffolds.
